This work analyses the importance of values and virtues for the law, and especially for the work of the judge. In particular “Flourishing” aims to improve not only the personal fortune, but also the life of all men. In this sense we must have not only the values and virtues required by the “Flourishing”, but also the desire and the possibility to act in conformity with them. In this perspective, the article examines the work of judges in Germany between the years 1933 and 1945. Most of the German courts had not acted in accordance with their values and virtues before 1933; then they had applied the laws without the idea of justice. The author does not see an option to change this behavior with the method of “Flourishing”: in his opinion the behavior in times of crisis is important for the life of all men.
